Cormac Scanlan
"For an urban decay photographer there is a wealth of interest - and even beauty - to be found in the different ways these decrepit structures take on lives of their own."
Cormac Scanlan is a UK based designer, photographer and cinematographer with a love for all things creative, and a passion for honing my art. Cormac Scanlan feels that when he explores a place and photographs it he is there to capture the essence of that place. when Scanlan travels he looks to seek out abused streets of a city or textures and forms that captures the viewer's imagination. he believes that any man made structure which has been dormant for a substantial amount of time will eventually succumb to nature and fall into disrepair.
What works best with Scanlan's work is his use of close ups on certain objects like the floor boards or brickwork because it really emphasizes the detail that he has capture by making a singular object the focal point by create a depth of field surrounding the object. I am going to take forward his techniques when shooting closeups of my own such as trying to create a depth of field, i am also going to be looking for places that would normally be overlooked by passers by to create a better sense of abandonment and decay.
I feel that this images is one of his strongest mainly because of the depth and technique used to capture such a narrative shot. i think that the tones of the image give this such a dark and damp feel giving the emotion of sadness to this piece. the colours are very complex even tho it consists of a very shallow pallet. I want to try and capture something that has this contrast between the damp greens and the dark shadows, i feel that this is all going to come down to location.
