Erik Johansson
Erik Johansson is a photographer and retoucher from Sweden based in Berlin, Germany. He is working on both personal and commissioned projects with clients all around the world. Erik doesn't capture moments, he captures ideas. With the help of his camera and Photoshop the goal is to make it look as realistic as possible. Many photographers hide their editing behind closed doors but Erik likes the record his in a time-lapse for the world to see. He does this so you can really create a link with not only the image but the editing behind the original image. My favorite Erik Johansson piece is "Drifting away” and “land fill” because of how it was made using a hand full of photos from different locations to achieve a scene that looks real also the technique of just layering very similar photos to create the inspire me to recreate or create a piece in the style his work.
Erik photography is just a way to collect material to realize the ideas in his mind with a problem solving approach. Although one photo can consist of hundreds of different images he always wants it to look as if it could have been captured. There is no CGI or stock photos in Erik's personal work, just complex combinations of his own photographs. It's a long process and he only creates 6-8 new images a year, excluding commissioned work.
Drifting away is my favorite because of how to was made and the process he went throughout using layers of photos to create this realistic looking image. even though the lighting is adding in it still compliments the image and gives the bottle life. after watching the video he made about how he edited the image i have a greater respect for how this piece was created and how every little detail like the gravel in the bottom and the water on the lens. i also think the way that he create the blue sky inside the bottle also gives it life and shows that life in the bottle is better than out.
